Sonic Cathedral’s female-fronted roundup for March: Part 1/2

SC logoOur good friends at Sonic Cathedral have reviewed 12 albums since our February digest. SC covered a lot of different types of music, from alternative and prog rock to death metal, all featuring female vocalists. Sonic Cathedral is a destination all FF metal and rock bands and fans should know about and visit.

Thanks again, SC, for sharing your coverage and the summaries of every review!

We’re posting a song from each album. This round-up will be in two parts ‘cos we don’t wont to super-saturate you with top-class FF music. Death Metal Mini Review Madness: Centinex; Deserted Fear; Fornicus; White Empress; Calm Hatchery

Centinex – Redeeming The Filth

Centinex

I can first describe Centinex has a faster paced Six feet Under.  They have that infectious rhythmic groove, but it’s just a little faster and equally ruthless.  Death Glance and Bloodraze are born of scorching cadence along with many others; built for the pit.  The good thing is that not all of their songs are just neck snapping fervor.  Ok, the neck snapping part might be true, but Centinex tones things down a bit focusing more on a vicious groove with songs such as Stone of Choice, Unrestrained, and Rotting Below.  In terms of death metal; it’s a diverse album highly recommended for anyone into death metal acts such as Cannibal Corpse, Six feet Under, and Obituary…just to name a few.

What’s Cookin’ In The Inbox (8 Nov 2013)

mailbox15It’s time for another edition of What’s Cookin’ in the Inbox.  It’s been far too long and our inbox is (was) getting a lot of attention over the last couple of months, so thank you to all those that sent us clips and videos of your bands.  As much as we’d love to review absolutely everything sent to us, it is just not possible, so we figure doing these short inbox bombardments help us spread the word about new music on the horizon or even something that’s not so new that requires your attention.  Check out this set of bands I think you will find eclectic enough as a grouping that something should fancy your undivided attention.

White Empress

White Empress is aggressive and boasts female vocals that aren’t pretty, but then again it depends who you are talking to.  Gritty is pretty to many people….including me.  What we have here is a demo version of a track called Erased and Rewritten.  Like most demos, I am sure it will be cleaned up and prepped for future release which, for now, is listed as “very soon.”
