Reggie’s Top 15 of 2012

2012Just when I thought 2011 was a banner year for metal, I think 2012 might be equal to or better in terms of both quality music and sheer volume of albums released.  It surely was not a dull moment if you ask me; it seemed like I was listening to at least a couple new albums each week.  Interestingly, I can probably look at half my list and tell you that some of these albums, I had no idea were coming.  They completely snuck on me or I never expected them like Kreator…a band I nearly forgot about came out with a killer album.  The band at #15 I never knew existed until just a few weeks ago and I am still impressed with them.  There are definitely some surprises on my list this year.  Some of these bands have been around for years and I am only now getting into them. I hope you had a great 2012 in metal!  Here are my Top 15 albums of 2012.

Theme Thursday – Reggie’s Top 5 of 2012 So Far

We are at the time of year to reflect upon at what albums really made an impression on me – it’s time for the mid-year best of list.  We are half way through a pretty amazing year as far as metal is concerned.  Quite a few veteran bands out there released some stellar music…with one New Jersey band topping my list so far.   One thing I love about blogging with fellow metalheads is that we all love metal equally, but definitely have a fondness for different subgenres.  Both Matt’s and Mark’s lists are great and unique and give me something to listen to…some of that stuff I haven’t heard yet.  I hope I can offer the same in return.   Here is my Top 5 list for mid-year 2012.

Album Review: Overkill – The Electric Age

What on earth could I possibly say about Overkill?   They have been in the business 32 years (since formation); released 16 studio albums among other non-studio/live/cover albums in between.  Overkill, as I describe them, is the little engine that does!  Though they never reached commercial status of the Big Four, Overkill epitomizes thrash metal in every sense of the world and in many cases more than the Big Four ever did.  They helped launch the thrash movement in the 80s, weathered the storm during the tumultuous 90s, and persevere today in a genre-bending-blending metal world.  When others change their styles to meet current needs, Overkill does exactly what THEY want to do; produce quality thrash metal!  And they have a die-hard following that appreciates every bit of it.  Yeah, I’m one of them!

Overkill: New Song – Goodnight

New Overkill is coming in a very short time.  This is probably my most anticipated album of 2012 despite it being only March.  Yes, I want this that much.  I can’t come up with anything creative to say.  Just listen to it!

Overkill Update Part II

Ok, now I am getting pumped up. Normally I am unaware of an Overkill release because they tend to sneak them out. You know, they are not all about the whole advertising thing. If I listen to The Electric Age and drive 90MPH in England, my ass will get ticketed at every speed cam in the country. Hopefully, I will be able to control what D.D. says I’ll do listening to this album. Just about a month or so away. Check out this little update. Hey Overkill, let’s have a sneak peek at the music!

Overkill Update

Just to update a post I recently did about forthcoming Overkill, we now have a little clip about the making of their new album The Electric Age.  Sounds like some pretty cool stuff coming our way on 27 March 2012.  You can read more about the album here.  Also, if you live in New Jersey, there is a signing session coming your way.

Below is a clip about the new album where you get to hear some little snippets of Overkill thrash.  Damn, I am excited!
