Reggie’s (Plantera7’s) Top 15 Albums of 2011

To me, 2011 was a great year for metal. September, in particular, was a busy month and full of quality releases. The following list is my personal Top 15 for the year with a brief explanation for each. I hope you had a great 2011. I look forward to another year of concerts, awesome metal albums, and more importantly chatting with you about everything metal!

If you are surpised to see that a particular band you like didn’t make my list, it might just be that I didn’t get a chance to listen to that album, such as Moonsorrow for example.  I just never got it, but I see it on many blogger’s lists.  I wish I had all the time in the world to sample new stuff, but taking into consideration where I am now compared to about 4 years ago…my horizons have been seriously broadened and I owe that to fellow bloggers (especially Matt) and readers who post about the bands they like.  Thank you for tuning in this year.  We look forward to a new and exciting 2012 in metal!

Album Review – Megadeth – Th1rt3en

Biased review in 3…2…1.  If there is one word to sum up one of metal’s legendary bands, Megadeth, I would select consistency.  Other fitting terms are:  Technical, heavy, fast, thrashing, understandable, or politically-incorrect.  Megadeth’s lyrics are not sugar-coated for radio play, their guitar work leaves both aspiring and veteran guitarists in awe, and their live set is absolutely meticulous.  All of those terms and attributes are consistent throughout Megadeth’s career.

Lulu Vs. TH1RT3EN

On November 1st, 2011 (North America), both anticipated releases from Metallica/Lou Reed and Megadeth will be available.  Will this settle the Metallica/Megadeth debate?  If you have to pick just one, which will it be?

Megadeth – TH1RT3EN – Release date

Megadeth is slated to release their 13th studio album on 1 Nov 2011.  The album, TH1RT3EN, contains…you guessed it 13 full tracks.  If you click on this link, you can read a play by play preview from bassist David Ellefson.   One thing about the article I thought was noteworthy was that several of these new tracks were actually written back in the Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia days.  These songs were shelved all this time and finally updated and re-recorded for TH1RT3EN.  Enjoy!

Here are a few new songs for you to preview.  Enjoy!
