Mammal’s 21-Year Hit Parade: 2010, #12 – #9


MetalCatMy choices today are mostly dark and deep except for Pathfinder, which is about 1.5 seconds above us at the speed of light.

I don’t want to visit the Moon. All that dust would make me sneeze. Nor do I need to visit any other planetary or lunar bodies in our solar system. I’ll wait for an advanced civilisation to invite me to visit their world where they destroyed AutoTune as soon as it was invented.

MetalCatHere’s a bunch of lighter songs. That’s how my selections bubble-sorted themselves, although you’ve probably come to expect a fair bit of lighter metal (or obscure prog) in my posts.

The other Metal State writers let me live here for entertainment. They throw peanuts at me. I am learning to communicate in their language. I can say “want peanut butter” in Human.

MetalCatHistory, technology and fantasy make up today’s three listings. Those sound like the ingredients for a modern religion.

Dark Metal Cat agrees. He say’s it’s high time humans started worshipping cats again. I gently reminded him that I already do.

Mammal’s 21-Year Hit Parade: 2002 / #12 – #10


MetalCatEternal, endless infinity. Against the seasons. Here and beyond. The themes of metal songs may be predominantly dark and bleak, but they are certainly more wide-ranging than “Hey, hey, do you wanna be my boyfriend.”

Come to think of it, I can’t offhand remember any metal love songs. Maybe I’ll have to do a series of Most Tender Metal Songs of Hugging and Affection. Or maybe not. I hugged Dark Metal Cat and lost both my forearms.

Song Of The Week: While Heaven Wept – Soulsadness


Introduced to me by a friend a while ago, this band surprised me greatly. How did they elude me for so long? This is doom mixed with symphonic power metal, with lots of keyboards and a fantastic singer. It’s gorgeous music that isn’t your typical slow and droning doomy doom; While Heaven Wept makes very diverse, melodic and epic music. The song ‘Soulsadness’ is just beautiful.
