Video of the Week – Twilight of the Thunder Gods

This post is coming to you late on a Friday night so it will be short and sweet. I am pretty excited that I was able to score a ticket to Amon Amarth in just a little over a week.  I had no idea they were even touring Europe so this is a  treat for me.  So, this weeks video comes from the Swedish metal masters for their song Twilight of the Thunder Gods.  It is also accompanied by their newest video Destroyer of the Universe.  Enjoy them both and have a great weekend.

Song of the Week – Criminals

Happy Wednesday I hope your week is going well.  This week I will be bringing you both the song and the video of the week.  I will be focusing my thoughts and discussion on the Swedish band Katatonia for the song on Wednesday and the video on Friday.

If you haven’t been following Katatonia up to this point you have some catching up to do…as I do myself.  Katatonia is what some people refer to as doom, gloom, or melancholy metal.  However you want to call it, Katatonia nails it.  Their artistic formula is unique and haunting.  Founding member and vocalist Jonas Renske’s vocals pierce through your heart.  If you haven’t experienced a Katatonia show please try to get yourself out there, they are very talented.  Ok on with the song of the week.

In 2003, Katatonia released their 6th studio album called “Viva Emptiness.”  Criminals is just one the 13 tracks on the album and is the song of the week.  I have read through the lyrics a few times and tried to make sense of them, but the meaning might be deeper that I can let my mind go at the moment.  Here are the lyrics for Criminals and if you have an interpretation let’s discuss it.

Song of the Day 8 Dec 2010

Since i am not at work today and moving my shit from one house to another, the first song that played in my car is the song of the day.  Even though my trek to the new home was so short that I didn’t get to finish the song, I am still declaring it the song of the day. The song for 8 Dec 2010 is:

Free Will Sacrifice by Amon Amarth off the Twilight of the Thunder Gods album.

And what an album it is. This one rocks from beginning to end.  Lucky for us in England (or in the Suffolk/Norfolk area) Amon Amarth will be in Norwich with Children of Bodom on the 1st of April 2011.  No, it’s not a premature April fools joke.  See you there!

Have a great week.  I will be on hiatus for a few days as I move and wait for internet to get set up at the new Plantera7 domicile.  Rock on!
