Theme Thursday – Bands I Want To See Live

Other than listening to metal, one of my other favorite things to do is going to live shows and listen to it at ear-numbing decibel levels.  Being 39 and having a job has given me ample time and decent resources to see shows wherever I have lived at that moment in time.  Location has also been a huge factor.  Growing up near Boston, MA and living in San Antonio, TX, Northern California, and England has made things much easier to catch my favorite bands.  For that, I am very thankful yet, some bands still elude me.  I have managed to catch Megadeth 14 times, Slayer 10 times, and Dream Theater 5 times, plus many others multiple times, but for some reason others have slipped away; some by no fault other than my own.  This list is of bands I have yet to see live and still want to see live very much. If you have seen these bands live and think I shouldn’t go, let me know.

Album Review: Mpire Of Evil – Hell To The Holy

Very often one of the major selling points of a début album’s reputation is the band members’ previous history, especially when said members were involved in a band that gave name to an entire genre. Mpire Of Evil is the result of taking three ex-Venom members from different eras and bringing them together “free of ego”, according to their bio, for a long-awaited début entitled Hell To The Holy. Ignoring the legal wrangling that resulted in this acronymic name (originally called Prime Evil, then sued due to already existing band, hence prime -> mpire), Mpire Of Evil have dispensed entirely with black metal and instead pushed forward a blend of oldschool heavy and Teutonic thrash metal. Those who heard Mpire Of Evil’s EP Creatures Of The Black (covers of Motörhead, Judas Priest, AC/DC and KISS present) should get a rough idea of the influences, although other parts emerge within the course of the 51-minute runtime.

Theme Thursday- Awesomely Awful Metal Videos

If there’s one thing that’s not lacking in the world of metal is music videos.  More often than not these videos don’t get much of a budget from the record companies, so the bands need to cut corners and really use their imagination to make a video to promote themselves.  Sometimes the band is aware that the video is going to be ridiculous, and often they are completely oblivious making the video even more hilarious.  Here’s a collection of some of the most hilariously awesome metal videos, intentional or not.  Check them out and have a good laugh.  If you know of some other awesomely awful metal videos leave them in the comments and I’ll add them to the post.  Peace Love and Metal!!!!

Song of the Day – No Class – 17 Feb 11

Sorry for the late post folks, Thursday is always a late day for me due to my Son’s afterschool activity.  Today’s song of the day is a cover of one of many Motorhead songs bands have covered. Today’s song is:

No Class by Kingdom of Sorrow off the Behind The Blackest Tears album (Motorhead Cover).

I don’t really know much about Kingdom of Sorrow except that it’s what you get when you put Hatebreed and Crowbar into a blender.  The end result is some pretty heavy stuff.  I dig their music.  If I had a job putting raw cow through a meat grinder in a slaughterhouse, Kingdom of Sorrow is what I would listen to while doing it with a smile on my face.

Behind The Blackest Tears is the follow-up to their self-titled first release.  They haven’t really strayed much from the sound on their first album, so consistency seems like the key to KoS melody?  There isn’t wrong with that unless they do it like 5 times in a row.  I look forward to their next release and the possibility of seeing them live would be cool.
