Reggie’s Honorable Mentions of 2013


I am not going to discuss why these particular albums didn’t make the final cut.  It was a tough choice for a few of these to leave them off the end-year list.  However, they are worth mentioning and if I did have a Top 20, these would be the final five in the group…in no particular order.  These are the remaining five albums of 2013 that tickled my fancy.  After the last video, I also included some other albums I like that I felt were worth mentioning only by name.  I am sure you heard of most of them.   They didn’t make the cut either, but I liked them just as well.  Enjoy, my actual Top 15 is coming up soon.

Album Review: Empyrios – Zion


test bella zionAll good things in moderation they say; too much of one thing can be detrimental.  Though I might disagree with the latter, I believe in the first part wholeheartedly.  As I listen to Zion, the forthcoming album from Empyrios, I hear lots of influences that would normally turn me away from such an album.  However, Empyrios seems to have incorporated many different sub-metal styles into one melting pot of entertaining and enjoyable music.  To give you some idea of where they are coming from, they list their influences as Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Symphony X, Nevermore, and Yngwie Malmsteen.  That’s quite an eclectic mix of influence.  I will take it a step further and throw in a bit of djenty flavor with occasional technical insertions in the vein of Nine Inch Nails (electronics)
