Mammal’s 21-Year Hit Parade: 2010, #4 – #1


MetalCatProg metal dominates the top of my personal 2010 hit parade. That makes sense since I deeply love progressive rock in its many forms. Metal which is partly influenced by prog structures naturally strikes many chords in me.

The three types of prog metal today are very different, covering melodic, Oriental and the more avant-garde styles. As far as I’m concerned, a lot of symphonic metal (thank you, Therion) is also laced with prog.

Dark Metal Cat likes anything laced with catnip.

MetalCatToday’s science lessons include mathematics from Star One, quantum physics from Allegaeon, and Einsteinian gravity from Solution .45. When we have fully grasped these concepts we will show how they don’t come together in mysticism from Tengger Cavalry.

Mammal’s 21-Year Hit Parade: 2010, #12 – #9


MetalCatMy choices today are mostly dark and deep except for Pathfinder, which is about 1.5 seconds above us at the speed of light.

I don’t want to visit the Moon. All that dust would make me sneeze. Nor do I need to visit any other planetary or lunar bodies in our solar system. I’ll wait for an advanced civilisation to invite me to visit their world where they destroyed AutoTune as soon as it was invented.

Mammal’s 21-Year Hit Parade: 2010, #16 – #13


MetalCatAgalloch, possibly Dark Metal Cat’s favourite band, sing about midwinter fires. I’m about to kindle the spirit of a springtime fire. It’s hot, sunny and anything but midwinter here in Zululand.

I’ll be using litchi wood, branches that fell off an ancient tree in the garden. It’s hard and burns for a long time. The last barbecue fire still had glowing embers after 13 hours. That’s even longer than I spend listening to music most days.
