Reggie’s August (2016) Roundup
Posted by Reggie
Continuing with what I think will be my regular review format (short and sweet), it’s time to discuss what I was spinning in August; a variety of interesting things to say the least. In fact, I was quite pleased with everything I took the time to listen to. It may be worth mentioning though, that I will not just post only what was released in the last month, but also what was new to me even if it was released months ago. Or even years ago…
Carnifex – Slow Death / Death Metal / Deathcore – Released on 5 Aug 2016 by Napalm Records
A solid dose of brutal riffs. What more can I say? Carnifex carnage continues. There are no ballads on this album! 3.5 out of 5
Sabaton – The Last Stand / Battle Metal / Power Metal– Released on 19 Aug 16 by Nuclear Blast Records
Sometimes you can’t blame a band for just doing what they do best. When I hear Sabaton, I want to grab a weapon and charge! The Sabaton formation marches on! 4 out of 5
Gemini Syndrome – Memento Mori / Hard Rock/Metal – Released on 19 Aug 16 by Century Media
Gemini Syndrome are heavy when they need to be and soft when the moment feels right. Memento Mori is a good steady dose of edgy hard rock. Overall, a nice continuation for the band; solid sophomore effort. 3.75 out of 5.
Soilwork – Death Resonance / Melodic Death Metal – Released on 19 Aug 16 by Nuclear Blast Records
A nice gathering of rarities or hard to find import tracks. At the end of the day, it’s Soilwork and if you have been flowing the band for quite some time (unlike me), you have probably heard these songs. Either way, it’s worth scooping this one up for your collection. It’s nice to have the rare tracks in one collection. I am giving this 4 out of 5 mainly because much of this is still new to me as if it were a new album.
Delain – Moonbathers / Symphonic Metal – Released on 26 Aug 16 by Napalm Records
In some ways, very predictable symphonic metal which is not a bad thing. Delain does it well. But, in other ways, a nice kick in the ass. Some growly vocals I never expected. Moonbathers is a strong balance; a welcome stray from the path. 4 out of 5
Biffy Clyro – Ellipsis / Hard Rock – Alternative / Released on 8 Jul 2016 by14th Floor Records
Ellipsis being their 7th album, Biffy camp have gained quite a following. The follow up to their Opposites album is right on track with the Biffy you know; songs that rock, songs that are emotional, and of course a few quirky ones here and there. A great solid effort! I don’t listen to too many bands in the same ballpark with Biffy Clyro, but I do like me some Biffy. Mon the Biff! 4.5 out of 5
