New bands: Your Cynical Sanity
Posted by ChristopherMammal
Meet some gritty deathcore guys from Durban, the nearest big city to where I live in South Africa. They’re not strictly a new band, having formed in 2012, but they’ve released their first EP, Put To Rest, and it’s good stuff.
I moan constantly about the paucity of this type of music in South Africa and that my types of bands never tour here. My wife says I’m becoming so repetitive that she’s going to call me Mariah Carey. But now, holey doughnuts! I can drag my ancient knees and the rest of me down to Durban and catch these guys at one of their gigs.
There are five guys in the band – Myke Taylor (vocals), Matt Mader (guitar and backup vocals), Shane Kayat (guitar), Rohan Myburgh (drums) and Gerard Temmingh (bass). They look as suitably butt-kicking as they sound. The use of two guitars and two vocalists adds depth and variety to a pretty cool mix of songs on the EP.
I’ll steal what the guys say about their music, which they describe as “a wide range of sounds, from fast metalcore’ish riffs to straight up, brutal, beatdown deathcore. Breakdowns are included and getting your mosh on is highly encouraged. Guitars are tuned lower than a hooker’s standards, vocals are as brutal as murder and the drums are saucy.”
They’re giving away their EP as a free download. I sincerely hope this promo will gain them wider recognition.
