WarpRider – Cool throwback to an era prior to my birth. There are some really cool and spacey grooves going on here, but not enough to hold my attention for long. Overall, some cool stuff going on here and a nice change from the brutality of metal. 2.5

Atleastimhousebroken – Not bad, not bad at all. Some really neat grooves and moments of pure insanity. I dug the disco vibe present in many of the songs but often wished there was just a bit more substance added in here in there. Like some kind of dynamic or more hooks. The bass lines tend to get repetitive, but usually work just fine in the end, even if they aren’t the most original grooves in the world. 2.5

Irmelinis – Entertaining, weird, bluesy, noisy and a bit creepy. Like Kraftwerk with groove and spaceships. 2.5

ChristopherMammal – As the hybrid prog-jazz-metal musical maverick here, I wallowed in this music. It’s almost like the history of Krautrock, the characteristically German style of psychedelic music, packaged into 43 minutes of floating away to other galaxies. The album opens with a retrospective salute to the classic blues rock of the 1970s. It waves at Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream as it leapfrogs beyond them and into the current decade of exploratory Krautrock, complete with funky jazz inserts, space rock and synthesized brass and woodwinds. Throughout, the repeating bass lines generate trippy-trance alpha rhythms in some brains. 4.0

A Metal State of Mind Score – 2.9 out of 5

About ChristopherMammal

I've made it to Mammal. I still hope to be classified as Human one day. Meanwhile I have evolved enough to recognise different types of music as well as the shrieks of certain vervet monkeys who are known for their scurrilous behaviour in the proximity of unguarded bananas.
