WarpRider – Raw is an understatement concerning Mantar.  It’s dirty, sludgy and cool.  Aside from being gritty, the two-piece adds a flair of angst to their sound and it impresses me that all this vibrant dark, thick, sludge comes from two people.  Good show! 3.0

Atleastimhousebroken – I really dig this stoner rock/metal band.  The bluesy fuzz on the instruments and the blackened vocals kept my attention and even made me go back for another spin.  It reminded me quite a bit of Glorior Belli but with less of a down on the bayou feel.  It’s tons of fun nonetheless and good and meaty songs to dig into.  Highly recommended investigation by fans of blackened stoner metal.  4.25

Irmelinis – ‘Death By Burning’ is raw, cold and uncomfortable. If that is good or bad depends on the listener. I would describe Mantar’s sound as heavy and destructive blackened doom with a hint of post metal. It’s a self-produced album that is well written and quite powerful.  – 3.5

ChristopherMammal – This two-piece outfit produces a remarkably rich sound, the more so considering they don’t use a bass guitar. They make adept use of their mixers and sound overlays to produce their style of blackened doom. It may be arguable whether not the vocals are strong and dark enough to match the sombre tone of the music. The counter-argument would be that the vocals are sung gruffly and the lyrics come through clearly, whereas a darker vocal delivery, a pure growl, would effectively add a third instrument that the band doesn’t need, thank you.  3.5

A Metal State of Mind Score – 3.6 out of 5
