EP Review: BongCaludron – BongCauldron

BongCauldron-EP-ArtworkLabel:  Superhot Records

Release Date: 13 Jan 2014

Songs:  5

Length:  33 Minutes

Genre:  Sludge

Studio Albums:  N/A

Location:  England

WarpRider – Everything about this self-titled EP is just downright dirty, sludgy, filth…and that is probably the best compliments I could give BongCauldron.  I still can’t believe this is just three people making all that glorious noise.  4.0

Atleastimhousebroken – I used to have a bong I called ‘The Cauldron’, this music pretty much makes the same sounds The Cauldron used to make, albeit with a bit more gain and reverb.  Not you primo kind Bud, but not the dry, dirty stuff either.  Good enough for a quality fix of hazy stoner metal. 3.75

Irmelinis – Enjoyable heavy sludge with a relatively clean sound and surprisingly diverse and catchy songs. The whole EP is well written and even though the band name makes me laugh, BongCauldron impresses me with their weighty riffs, angsty vocals and groovy rhythms.  4.0

ChristopherMammal – It’s obvious to me why Superhot signed up these guys after their self-release of a shorter version of their eponymous debut EP. The sludgy guitar is so sticky it glues you to the nearest inviting person. The bass ripples through riffs like a Hellfire through reinforced concrete. The drums nicely set a vibrant change of pace from one song to the next, and the vocals – well, you could grate granite on them. It’s all forcefully rounded off by the occult undertones. 4.0

A Metal State of Mind Score – 3.9 out of 5
