Video of the Week: Cockroach King by Haken

Fact: Muppets make anything more awesome.  Fact: Queen is an awesome band and Bohemian Rhapsody is an awesome video.  Fact: Haken’s new single “Cockroach King” is prog metal awesomeness.

What happens when you mix all these awesome facts together?  You get one of the most awesome videos you will ever see.  I really can’t see how Haken could have visually represented “Cockroach King” any better and the nods to Queen are just too cool.  Give it a watch along with their other super trippy video for “Pareidolia”.  Both are off their new album The Mountain which in super quick review format (full review coming soon…ish) is a must for any self-appriciating fan of anything prog and if you don’t check it out you should feel ashamed of yourself.  Enjoy!! Peace Love and Metal!!!!

  1. Awsome video. Since some time I want to check out Haken, because I’ve heard so many good things about them. I really like the flow of their songs. Although – especially after watching Coackroach King first – I have to admit, that voice really sounds kind of Muppet-like:-D

  2. Cockroach King was my first experience with Haken as well. I’ve seen their name floating around, but kept thinking that they were just another run of the mill melo-death band. Boy was I wrong. The album is on Spotify and I’ve been listening to the fuck out of it. Great stuff.
And with the video, I thought it was a joke at first with the Muppet voice. But that’s how he really sounds on the record, lol. My mental image of the band will now forever be Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.
