Monday Metal Madness – Grammy Nominations 2012

grammy_awardLast year, for the 2011 Grammy Awards (click here for our 2011 poll), there were some cool deserving bands nominated for an award.  Dream Theater received their first nomination and Mastodon and Megadeth were also nominated.  However, it was Foo Fighters who swept anything and everything related to Rock/Metal.  Nothing bad on them, they deserve to be awarded for their work, they are a great band.  But, it’s painfully obvious that the Grammy Committee is still unable to draw the line between Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal. They need to separate these categories completely.  Incidentally, A Metal State of Mind voters wanted Dream Theater to win.

In 2012, for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, we will see a strong list of actual metal bands and one (mostly Rock) other band that could probably take the award.  The 55th Grammy’s, not that it is actually worth watching, will air in America on Feb 10, 2013.  Here is the list for the most important aforementioned category:

Anthrax – I’m Alive

Halestorm – Love Bites, So Do I

Iron Maiden – Blood Brothers

Lamb of God – Ghost Walking

Marilyn Manson – No Reflection

Megadeth – Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)

Though Halestorm is a cool band with catchy hooks, I feel they don’t really belong in this category; therefore, my pessimistic side tells me they will probably win.  This is a tough call because there is some real talent on the list.  So what say you?  Who is most deserving for their respective song?  Here are some YouTube clips for you to listen to and vote.  Enjoy, and I will follow-up this post when the Grammy’s are over.

  • On another note, Storm Corrosion (Steven Wilson) is up for a Grammy for Best Surround Sound Album.  We wish him luck.

  1. As much as I’d like to vote for Maiden, “Blood Brothers” is about a decade old and seems like a cheap entry. Great song, but doesn’t deserve to be there (It’ll probably win). My vote goes to LoG for “Ghost Walking”. A damn fine song off of a damn fine album.

  2. I figured Halestorm would win since they are more “accessible” and did sell alot of albums. I would love to see Maiden win despite the old song becasue they were one of the bands that used to scare my parents…you know all that devil music…back in the day. My vote went to them for that, but I would love to see Megadeth win for biased reasons. All good candidates as far as metal goes…but Halestorm just doesn’t quite fit.

    • As catchy as that “Love Bites” tune is, nope, it totally doesn’t fit in. There should really be a separate category for the 2 anyways. It’s not like they televise 90% of the awards, let alone the hard rock/metal category. What would be so hard about fine tuning a huge market of music.

  3. My vote goes to Lamb of God, even though I don’t really know their music. I just think the other bands have already recieved enough attention and praise 😉
    And Halestorm doesn’t count.

  4. I would like to see Megadeth win it purely for the anticipation of Dave Mustain’s thank you speech, but I think Halestorm will take it because they appeal to a wider audience. As much as I like them, they should never be nominated.

    • Oh man. That acceptance speech would be amazing. Dave should just walk up with the foot already in his mouth with his suit, which he will most likely reiterate many times over, which is not from Men’s Warehouse nor was it bought with gift certificates.

      • I never thought of the acceptance speech. That would be worth staying up to watch it. Also, as I was scouring the awards list and nominees, Rock/Metal has the least amount of related categoires. You should see how many Rap and R & B awards there are…

  5. I have New american gospel and considered it good, despite I thought that there was not one hit on it. When I heared Redneck from Sacrament and finally Ghost Walking, I decided to give them another chance with their current record and it’s really a great one! So I vote for Lamb Of God.

I really don’t give a crap about Grammy Awards, because as far as I know it’s just some people of the music industry making up a list to promote their products. That would also explain the strange compilation of artists and songs (such as Motörhead winning an award for a cover of Metallicas Motorbreath).

Despite what he did for music Dave Mustaine is a fucking asshole for what left his mouth the last view month apart from singing. So if he wins and is allowed to talk he surely take the chance to make a jerk of himself once more.
