Matt’s Top 10 Music Videos of 2012

2012-So-FarMan, there were a ton of cool videos this year and it seems like the trend of the band recording performance footage in a murky basement while looking tough is being gravitated away from.  This year I saw much creativity put into the music video and on a couple of them, it led me to actually go out and buy the album (the others I was going to buy the record anyways).  Like Reggie, I’m going to keep the commentary on the video to a minimum and just let the video speak for itself.  I hope you enjoy these videos and share with us some of your favorite videos from 2012.  Peace Love and Metal!!!!!

#10: The Veil of Isis by The Sword

Yes, it’s cheesy as hell (a theme you will see throughout this list), but the visuals are really neat and they work with the song wonderfully.

#9: Audiophile by Glitter Dick

This one pays homage to all those schlock movies I love to watch and it looks like the band had a damn good time making the video.  I chuckled the whole time I watched this one.  Great song too!!!

#8: Solo Un Miraggio by Settimo Senso

You need a new snare drum, what does a band do?  Why take on a bunch of grade-schoolers in a gymnastics competition.  Absolutely hilarious and highly original.

#7: Witchtripper by Down

They actually trip a witch!  Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!  And the band is LARPing!!!! I’m tearing laughing so hard.

#6: The Fatal Feast by Municipal Waste

I could almost swear that Troma had some kind of part in the creation of this horror sci-fi masterpiece.  Notice the space ship in the beginning is made of beer cans.  Genius!!!

#5: Domino the Destitute by Coheed and Cambria

The cinematography on this video rivals that of some big Hollywood productions and the narrative of the song is totally neat.

#4: Astral Body by Between the Buried and Me

Simply the most visually beautiful video I’ve seen this year with some absolutely mind melting special effects.  BTBAM have really outdone themselves with this video.

#3: The Diplomat by Pig Destroyer

It’s a Stanley Kubrick nightmare come to life.  I love the use of the colors and that jumpy film effect.  Nice message too 😉

#2: The Grip Tightens by Revocation

This is how you do a performance video.  No ifs ands or buts.  Hats off to the makeup artist on this one.  It was a really hard choice between this and my #1.

#1: No One Survives by Nekrogoblikon

Just wow.  Music video perfection.  It’s so nice to see such work and originality being put into a music video these days.  Every time I watch this I can’t wipe the shit eating grin off my face.  And that ending, absolutely classic.  Every single aspect about this video screams perfection and love of music and film.  All other bands should be taking notes on how to make music videos from Nekrogoblikon and their music video team.  If this video doesn’t brighten up your metalriffic day, you have no soul.  End of story.

  1. Damn, I missed out on some good videos. This is what I get for not writing down the things I see for an end of year list. You have some great stuff here. I can’t believe I missed The Sword. Same for Revocation.

Great list man, it really was a cool year for the music video…too bad there are very few avenues on TV to watch the,.

  2. Great list mate. The Sword play London on Thursday… Absolutely buzzin’ for this gig!
