Theme Thursday- Heavy Metal Zombies

Yes, that's Scott Ian as a zombie.

Zombies.  Love ’em or hate ’em, they’re a force in pop culture that isn’t going away anytime soon.  From video games, to movies, to literature the living dead clawed, chewed, and gnashed their way into our hearts.  Why do we love these bumbling husks of humanity so much?  Probably because it gives us a chance to take our frustrations out on all the other ‘morons’ that get in our way on a daily basis.  Walking down a crowded street, haven’t you wished at least once you could drive a bulldozer over all the people in your way but tucked that thought in the back of your mind due to the legal consequences that come with it.  If everyone was a zombie I bet you wouldn’t even think twice before doing it.

Much like mowing down hordes of the undead in games and movies is a stress relief, so is music, and zombies have certainly found their way into that too, especially heavy metal.  Here’s a bunch of songs and music videos in many different styles of metal that pay tribute to societies favorite monster, the zombie.  What are some of your favorite metal songs and videos about zombies? Enjoy!!  Peace Love and Braaaaaiiiinnnnssssss!!!!

P.S. I’m aware that a couple of these aren’t exactly about zombies, but they have ‘zombie’ in the title and they’re kick ass songs, so…

Anthrax – Fight ‘Em Til You Can’t

Hammerfall – One More Time

GWAR – Zombies, March

Death – Zombie Ritual

White Zombie – I, Zombie

St. Vitus – Zombie Hunger

Bloodbath – Feeding the Undead

Revocation – Re-Animaniacs

Ozzy Osbourne – Zombie Stomp

Unearth – Zombie Autopilot

Cannibal Corpse – Eaten Back to Life

The Misfits – Astro Zombies

  1. Sweet! Now I have a playlist for the zombie apocalypse. I am going to add these to my iTouch immediately and stand by for terror. Cool post. Seems like death metal bands like to sing about zombies…among a few other metal sub genres. Have you seen Zombieland? The one with Woody Harrelson? Great zombie movie!

Let’s not forget Six feet Under!

    • Ya, Death Metal is pretty big on the zombies, I could have made hours upon hours of a playlist of death metal zombies, but I wanted to do a more diversified list. That’s a killer 6FU song. I love the movie in the video, Planet Terror. I caught that flick in a crappy run down theater, it was the perfect atmosphere for that Grindhouse flick.

I’ve seen Zombieland. Loved that movie, especially the part with Bill Murrey, totally did not see that one coming, lol. Back in the early 00’s me and a couple buddies of mine went a campy horror movie watching spree where we spent about a year watching as many crappy horror movies as possible doing our own Mystery Science Theater 3000 (did you ever get into that show?) thing over them (man I wish we recorded some of those sessions, funny stuff ensued). We even found a movie called Monsturd (yes, a movie about a killer peice of poo) and ended up inviting a bunch of people over to my place to watch it. Turns out it was one of the biggest piece of crap movies I’ve ever seen (pun intended), they use flies to kill the monster. But man were there some funny comments that night.

My all time favorite zombie movie is from the legendary Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, Dead Alive (or BrainDead outside of America). So funny, so gory (still to this day, probably one of the goriest movies I’ve ever seen), if you’ve never seen it you have to check it out. There’s ninja priests, rat monkeys, zombie rockabillies, the biggest set of tits you will ever see, and the best use of a lawnmower in a movie ever.
