Song(s) of the Week – Paradise Lost & Insomnium (Tour News for UK)

Today’s song of the week is double-bill of bands I just found out are coming to a club near me – Norwich, England, at the end of April.  Paradise Lost is headlining a UK tour with Finland’s Insomnium.  This is promising to be an intimate night of gloom and doom; up close and personal with two bands I have never seen before.  Below (page 2) are the dates for those living in the UK and also two songs for this week.

  1. Sounds like a great tour. Paradise Lost I’m about 50/50 on, but Insomnium are bad ass. I really like that “Through the Shadows” song (as well as the rest of the album).

  2. With Paradise Lost you definitely have to catch the right album at the right time. They have definitely changed a lot over the years. If you like the heavier stuff you might like their latest and also their earliest albums. People generally like Draconian Times. I think that one came out in mid 90’s and people seem to think its their breaking album. I have followed them ever since that album so their changes seemed more subtle to me. Coming into Paradise Lost now would make those musical changes much more dramatic and might turn some people off. Therefore, you would have to hit the right song or album at the right time.

I did buy the VIP package. Ultimately, I just hope they are cool dudes for what it cost. Insomnium is an awesome bonus for an opener. They should balance out the more doom-melancholy sound of Paradise Lost with some more thrashy and metal!
